The Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA) recently presented Representative Thomas Mehaffie (R-Dauphin) with a Champion of Public Education award.
The PSBA Champion of Public Education award recognizes lawmakers for their outstanding support of traditional public schools during a two-year legislative session. This support is measured by the legislator’s voting record, bills introduced, attendance and involvement at their local districts, and efforts to work with PSBA to support public schools.
Rep. Mehaffie has described education as one of society’s most important responsibilities, consistently voting in support for increased funding for pre-K–12 schools. Rep. Mehaffie has a proven record of working in a bipartisan manner on behalf of public education, most notably with his vote in 2023 in support for comprehensive cyber charter school reforms under House Bill 1422. In 2024, Rep. Mehaffie voted in favor of Senate Bill 700, now Act 55 of 2024, which contained historic funding increases for school districts, cyber charter school funding reforms and other significant policy changes.
PSBA thanks Rep. Mehaffie for his impactful efforts to help school districts control mandated cyber charter tuition costs and preserve precious taxpayer resources.
