The Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA) recently presented Senator Camera Bartolotta (R-Beaver/Green/Washington) with a Champion of Public Education award.
The PSBA Champion of Public Education award recognizes lawmakers for their outstanding support of traditional public schools during a two-year legislative session. This support is measured by the legislator’s voting record, bills introduced, attendance and involvement at their local districts, and efforts to work with PSBA to support public schools.
Sen. Bartolotta currently serves in the Senate as majority caucus secretary. Her work was critical to secure support for the Senate passage of House Bill 1032, now Act 68 of 2024, legislation that offers grants to school districts, intermediate units, career and technology centers, and community colleges to fund solar energy projects.
“We commend Sen. Bartolotta for her continued and persistent leadership in ensuring schools have access to cleaner and more affordable energy and for unlocking a source of savings for public schools,” said PSBA CEO Nathan Mains.
Sen. Bartolotta also has voted in a bipartisan way to support increased state investments for grants to help school districts address school safety and security, and student mental health needs. Throughout her tenure in the Senate, she has worked with PSBA on a wide range of issues to support public education leaders, students and taxpayers.
“I am honored to use my role as a public servant to advocate for Pennsylvania’s students and ensure the schools they attend operate in an efficient manner that controls costs for taxpayers,” Sen. Bartolotta said. “As energy costs continue to rise and families struggle to pay their electric bills, we don’t also want to hit them with higher taxes to fund the operation of their local schools.”
