Background

The Pennsylvania School Boards Association, in partnership with the Pennsylvania School Public Relations Association, launched the new Pride & Promise public outreach campaign at the 2007 PASA-PSBA School Leadership Conference. The goals for the campaign are to educate local communities about school district funding, increase awareness regarding the community leadership role of school boards and promote the value of public education.

This new Pride & Promise effort follows the previous campaign that operated from October 2002 through May 2004. “Pride and Promise – Public Schools…Achieve” successfully increased awareness about the accomplishments and value of public education, as well as promoted the effectiveness and commitment of local school boards to providing all Pennsylvania children with a high quality education.

Before embarking on the next Pride & Promise campaign, the associations wanted to find out what Pennsylvania residents thought about various aspects of public education. The Center for Opinion Research at Franklin and Marshall College surveyed of more than 1,000 individuals regarding their views on public schools and school boards. The results of this research provided the foundation for the campaign.

The information on this Web site was developed to address the findings of the opinion research and present information to the citizens of Pennsylvania in an informative and effective manner. This site will be updated throughout the campaign with additional information about the commonwealth's schools, so please check back for new material.
