A Welcome Message
The Pennsylvania School Boards Association is a nonprofit statewide association of public school boards, pledged to the highest ideals of local lay leadership for the public schools of the commonwealth.
Welcome!
More than ever before, the local control of our state’s schools is of utmost importance. For more than 175 years, communities have had a voice in the operation of their schools through a locally elected board of school directors comprised of dedicated volunteers. These individuals have one common goal – to ensure students are properly educated in preparation for life. As local representatives, school boards understand the community’s unique challenges, values, culture and circumstances, and how these factors influence our children and schools.
The Pennsylvania School Boards Association aims to promote excellence in school board governance through leadership, service and advocacy for public education. The association exists as a resource for school board members and leaders in school management, providing training programs and conferences, publications, advocacy in education policymaking and a wide range of direct services to assist members in being effective in their vital roles.
PSBA believes that how schools are governed does make a difference. The association’s Standards for Effective School Governance and Code of Conduct for School Board Members reflect best practice and compelling research, which make clear that the actions of local school boards can have a profound impact on student achievement.
