A Welcome Message
The Pennsylvania School Boards Association is a nonprofit statewide association of public school boards, pledged to the highest ideals of local lay leadership for the public schools of the commonwealth.
Welcome!
Public education is a birthright for every American, yet it does not happen automatically. The delivery of this vital service is made possible by the dedicated efforts of local school board members, who are elected locally and serve without pay. These officials come from virtually every walk of life, and act as the public’s representatives in governing and providing policy direction for the schools in their communities.
The Pennsylvania School Boards Association exists, primarily, to assist local school board members as well as others in school management to be effective in their vital roles. We do this through active advocacy in education policymaking, both in the legislative halls as well as in the courts; training programs and conferences; publications; and a wide range of direct services.
PSBA believes that how schools are governed does make a difference. The association’s Standards for Effective School Governance and Code of Conduct for School Board Members reflect best practice and compelling research, which make clear that the actions of local school boards can have a profound impact on student achievement.
