The Pennsylvania School Boards Association is a nonprofit statewide association of public school boards, pledged to the highest ideals of local lay leadership for the public schools of the commonwealth.
Region 13: Thomas H. Sumpter Jr.
As a newly-elected Pittsburgh (Allegheny Co.) school board member, Thom serves on the Negotiations Committee and chairs the Education Committee. He is the elected Allegheny Co. Democratic Party Male member for the fifth ward, eighth district in the City of Pittsburgh and serves on the executive committee. In addition, he serves as chair of the Allegheny Co. Democratic Black Caucus and holds membership in the Greater Pittsburgh Alliance of Black School Educators and the NAACP Pittsburgh Branch. He retired in July 2004 after a 25-year career with the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development.
